Carrie Underwood was “reserved” and “distant” but she remained “polite” to the American Idol crew following her much-discussed performance at Donald Trump’s inauguration in January, a source has claimed.

On January 20, the singer belted out America the Beautiful without background music due to technical difficulties, with many criticizing the performance on social media.

Then just days later, she flew back to Los Angeles to film Hollywood Week for the new season of American Idol, where she has made her debut as a judge.

An insider has said that although the attention from her inauguration performance was still fresh, Carrie, 42, remained professional on set.

But according to the source, she seemed a little more distant from the rest of the crew compared to her co-judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.

The insider claimed that crew members on American Idol have been told “not bring up the inauguration under any circumstances” and avoid asking Carrie about it.

They said, “It’s not just the inauguration. It’s Hollywood week which is a lot of moving parts.

“The production team has to go film in Hawaii next week, so that can be stressful.

“All these things take a toll so producers want to do everything they can to make sure every person on the team feels comfortable and supported.”

The technical blunders Carrie suffered during the inauguration led to some awkward moments of silence during the ceremony, which was broadcast around the world.

Since music didn’t play, the former American Idol winner eventually sang a cappella and many shared their thoughts on the performance on social media.
