Donald Trump said he will soon revisit the issue with Greenland’s

President Trump bid farewell as he climbed aboard Air Force One, leaving Palm Beach, Florida, behind and setting his sights on Washington, D. C., following the U.S. operation that resulted in the apprehension of Nicolás Maduro.

Bloomberg TV’s own Annmarie Hodern was on hand to report from Air Force One, sharing Trump’s reasoning behind the capture and his broader plans: “Don’t ask me who’s in charge because I’ll give you an answer and it’ll be very controversial.” When probed further with “What does that mean?” Trump retorted: “It means we’re in charge.” He also lamented, “They took our oil away from us.”, reports the Express. On the topic of reestablishing an American embassy in Caracas, Trump revealed, “We’re thinking about it.”

In the wake of the Venezuela assault and the seizure of its president, concerns are mounting over potential US intentions to annex Greenland, a territory Trump has repeatedly declared as crucial to America’s security interests.

Just hours after Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro was arrested on drug trafficking charges, Katie Miller, wife of Trump’s Deputy Chief of Staff Steven Miller, stirred controversy with a post that seemed to suggest the US should take control of the Arctic island. Miller, who is also a conservative podcaster, shared an image of the Danish territory overlaid with the American flag and simply captioned it ‘SOON.’

Greenlanders and Danes express outrage
The provocative post by the MAGA ally immediately sparked outrage among Greenlanders and Danes, who rallied in defense of their homeland, known for its untapped mineral wealth and NATO membership.

Jesper Moller Sorensen, Denmark’s ambassador to the US, responded to Miller’s post with a ‘friendly reminder’ about the established defense ties between the two nations. Sorensen wrote, “Just a friendly reminder about the US and the Kingdom of Denmark: We are close allies and should continue to work together as such. US security is also Greenland’s and Denmark’s security,” adding, “Greenland is already part of NATO. The Kingdom of Denmark and the United States work together to ensure security in the Arctic.”

Sorensen also pointed out that Denmark has significantly ramped up its Arctic security efforts, committing $13.7 billion in 2025 alone for use in the Arctic and North Atlantic, demonstrating their serious commitment to joint security. He concluded, “And yes, we expect full respect for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Denmark.”

Denmark’s Prime Minister condemns Trump’s threats
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen supported Sorensen’s position and disclosed that the nation is bolstering its military capabilities in response to Trump’s threats regarding Greenland. In her annual New Year’s address, Frederiksen condemned Trump’s persistent threats, declaring that Denmark will “stand firm on what is right and wrong.

“In this past year, we have had to pay attention to a lot. Threats. Pressure. Derogatory language. From our closest ally for a lifetime,” Frederiksen said, according to Danish daily newspaper Berlingske.

“Wanting to take over another country, other people. As if it were something you could buy and own,” she added. “It doesn’t belong anywhere.”

Denmark mobilizes its military
In her televised address, Frederiksen announced that Denmark is rapidly strengthening its military presence and enhancing security measures in the Arctic region as the president’s pressure intensifies.

“My speech tonight has not been about foreign policy. It could well have been that. You know where I – where the government stands,” the prime minister said.

“We are in full swing, strengthening Danish defense and preparedness,” she added. “Never before have we increased our military strength so significantly. So quickly.

“We are not the ones seeking conflict. But let no one be in any doubt: No matter what happens, we will stand firm on what is right and wrong.”

The prime minister emphasized that the nation is focused on bolstering Arctic security, and characterized the kingdom as geographically expansive yet sparsely populated.

“We are taking on our responsibilities in the world. If we let one country fall first, then the way is paved for Russia to advance further into Europe,” she stated, as reported by the Danish outlet.

Speculation about Greenland potentially becoming the next target of a US acquisition follows Saturday’s dramatic arrest of Maduro and his wife, Flores, alongside the US military strike in Venezuela’s capital, Caracas.

Approximately 40 civilians and military personnel were killed in the strike, an official confirmed to the New York Times. No US fatalities have been reported, though an undisclosed number of American troops sustained injuries, all of whom are said to be in stable condition.

Maduro, 63, and his wife, 69, were apprehended following Trump’s allegations that Venezuela has been inundating the US with narcotics and gang members. They arrived by helicopter in Manhattan on Saturday evening, having previously stopped at airfields in upstate New York and Puerto Rico.
